24: Brian James on the Spirit Bros. Podcast
This is a unique episode because for the first time, it’s me on the receiving end of the questions. Recently I was honoured to be invited onto Peter Lavoie and Scott Simon’s Spirit Bros. podcast to talk about my journey as a yoga practitioner and teacher. It’s an epic 2.5 hour conversation and we go pretty deep into a number of areas including:
What inspired me to start this podcast
Advice for beginning yoga students and teachers
My yoga inspirations including my relationship with Mark Whitwell
My transition from the corporate advertising world to becoming an independent yoga teacher
Overcoming addiction and my healing work with plant medicines
Marriage as a spiritual path
The joys and challenges of being an independent yoga teacher
And a lot more.
This was my first long form interview and I wasn’t sure how comfortable I was going to be speaking about myself for so long, but Scott and Peter are very generous, engaging and curious hosts which made the experience fun and enjoyable. By the end of our time together, I felt like I’d found some true spirit bros., which I’m super grateful for. I hope the conversation provides some inspiration or provokes some deeper thought about what it means to be a yogi and a yoga teacher in the modern world.
